It sounds like you erased your MacBook's hard drive when you were in the recovery menu, and now when you try to start it up you are getting a prohibited sign on a white screen. Here are some suggestions on next steps:

- The prohibited sign likely means your Mac is failing to find a valid system software to boot from after erasing the drive. You will need to reinstall macOS in order to use your Mac again.

- To reinstall macOS, you will need to boot back into Recovery mode by holding Command+R while powering on. From there you can reinstall macOS over the internet or using a USB installer drive if you have one available.

- If you don't have another Mac to create a USB installer, booting into internet Recovery should allow you to fully reinstall the version of macOS your Mac originally had. Follow the onscreen prompts to select your drive and reinstall.

- Once macOS is reinstalled, you'll want to restore any data backups you have. If you don't have backups, unfortunately any data that was on the drive is likely unrecoverable after a full erase. Be sure to set up regular Time Machine backups going forward.

Let me know if you have any other questions! Reinstalling the OS should resolve the prohibited sign issue and get your Mac functioning again. Just be prepared to restore your data from backup.
