Difference between keep esim and delete esim

When resetting my iPhone, there is an option to reset keeping esim or not. What is the difference and what is the recommendation?

You are erasing the phone for some reason.

If you are planning to keep the phone and set it up again for your own use with the same carrier that you have now, you can save a lot of time by keeping the eSIM setting.

If you are planning to sell or give the phone away....so another user would be using the phone...you would want to delete the eSIM settings.

Thank you! I accidentally selected the esim erase option (my phone was stolen and I had to restore my Appleid which took several days and received a replacement phone without appleid restoration) and had to spend the last couple of hours reactivating the phone with my carrier! Apple should have provided this step in the instructions that the representative sent. Big miss on their part! Appreciate the reply and hopefully will pay it forward to others with the same question.
