Replacing battery on MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012)

Who can point me to the right place to get a replacement battery for my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012) - I have purchased a new MacBook Air, but want to continue to use the Pro as well.

The MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012) needs a new battery. It is showing "Battery condition: Replace soon."

I know it needs one, as it is running very slow.

Model No. A1286

Thank you.

I see they're on backorder 🙁

That'll give you time to watch their installation video though.

When you replace the bottom case screws, note they go in at a slight angle to vertical, sort of corresponding to the curved edges of the case.

Also don't be surprised if the black plastic feet fall off, as the internal piece that secures them tends to break off and rattle around inside. You can use double sided tape to replace them. If you want authentic-looking replacements a popular auction site has plenty.

Lastly be careful. Follow OWC's instructions and you'll be fine, just be aware this site has plenty of reports of people who didn't do things right: sparks, smoke, and a dead Mac, asking what to do now.

Not really. I'm only comfortable recommending vendors I've used in the past, and OWC is as good as it gets with aftermarket batteries. It's very likely that they won't sell batteries that they are not willing to back up with a guarantee, so there's probably a very good reason they're waiting for their supplier to manufacture some more.

I understand your disappointment with OWC so far, but we're living in an age when people actually come through with their promises it should come as a welcome surprise. OWC is reputable. Can't say that about most others.

In the meantime enjoy "We apologized for the inconvenience, so... we're good, right?"

Yes, back order I guess? I see it's already on my credit card...hope they wait to charge until it ships.

I *will* go watch that video and you've been very helpful telling me about the slight angle....and about the feet falling off. That would probably have freaked me out. ;) I'm not a complete novice with hardware, as I've changed out hard drives, etc. Still, I can use all the help I can get. At least, if I see smoke, sparks and have a dead Mac, I have a few backup drives. ;) And I can learn how to use my new MacBook Air...I used a backup drive (as suggested by the tech at the Apple store) to transfer all info to the new Air. That went very smoothly...although I have to figure out how to access my photos easier...they seem to be buried somewhere in the baement of the Air. ;)

The reason I want to continue with this Mac is that I have Photoshop CS3 on it to tweak photos. (photographer over here) and I don't want to pay their monthly fee to put it on the new MacBook Air. I'm looking at different apps to use...but haven't had the time to try any of them out yet.

Again, I thank you so very much on the tips for installing. I can't believe THIRTY days! Ah well.

I understand. Photoshop is the three hundred pound gorilla of image editing, but I think photography and artistic expression in general shouldn't be relegated to the wealthy. Even if what they may charge is reasonable, figuring out their pricing plans is mind-numbing.

While you wait for your battery consider GIMP. No, it's not Photoshop but it's free, has robust user-to-user support, and works on macOS versions as old as Sierra: https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

".... photography and artistic expression in general shouldn't be relegated to the wealthy." Exactly. Especially when I'm not even using a tenth of what is possible with PS. I just use a few features for photo tweaking.

Thank you so very much for this additional information. As a matter of fact, the laptop I'm typing on is running on HighSierra. If I recall correctly, it wouldn't upgrade to any later versions. And even when it was updating...I was always worried that the new version wouldn't support CS3. I love CS3 & especially with Bridge to browse.

I will definitely take a look at GIMP! Does it have a browser? I'm really looking forward to doing my photo work on the new MacBook Air. It zooms compared to this thing. ;)

You are a wealth of information and I humbly appreciate it.

Hi again, John.

I just came across a program called PhotoPad by NCH Software.

Have you looked at it any? It looks really straight forward to me...and allows photos to browse across the

bottom of the screen.....
