Replacing battery on MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012)

Who can point me to the right place to get a replacement battery for my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012) - I have purchased a new MacBook Air, but want to continue to use the Pro as well.

The MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012) needs a new battery. It is showing "Battery condition: Replace soon."

I know it needs one, as it is running very slow.

Model No. A1286

Thank you.

Well, just bear in mind few (if any) products are truly "free", and those that used to be truly free are no longer available. Developers have to make money somehow, and free doesn't pay the bills. Free products tend to disappear, but the better ones eventually improve upon them. That creates a demand, and then they sell them for reasonable amounts.

To cite a trivial example Apple's Photos app is truly free, but that's because you paid for it by buying a Mac.

I admit to being a little skeptical of NCH software but at the moment I can't put my finger on the reason.

Hi John,

Well, not only was the battery on back order...then OCW emailed me saying the time on my CC was running out and to please give the last four numbers.

I finally did that and just Monday, Feb. 5th, I got this, "I'm pleased to inform you that your current order has been released to the warehouse for shipping. Upon fulfillment, the warehouse will send you an additional email confirming shipment, along with any available tracking information."

I emailed them last night and asked for an update.

Now, today, I get this, "I checked with Stock Team and our Website, and unfortunately the item NWTBAP15MBU85W is still on back order w/o any confirmed date.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Please let me know if you still would like to wait for it.

Thank you for your patience and understanding Lela."

I'm actually out of patience with them.

Do you have any other ideas as to where I could possibly order

said battery?

Many thanks,

Hey, John.

Well, the installation was very straight forward. Seemed to go without a hitch - at least until I dropped one

of those teeny tiny screws and it fell into the computer. ;) I tipped the laptop over and a piece of broken black plastic fell out. I have NO IDEA where on earth that came from. I've never had this laptop open. I guess it came that way from the factory. Anyway, the screw fell out and all went well - the laptop fired up.

I'm now "calibrating the power management system" and hope that I see some increased speed when that is all

done. Stay tuned. ;)

Great! Glad to hear it went well.

I am nearly certain the little black plastic piece that fell out is a remnant of one of the four plastic feet from the bottom of the Mac's case. They are ultrasonically welded (?) and the interior piece is found broken in nearly 100% of the Macs I come across. The feet themselves usually stay attached, but if they fall off you can either use double sided foam adhesive tape to keep them secure (I don't like glue) or you can buy a replacement set from Amazon for peanuts.

Now you're an expert 🙂

LOL! An 'expert' is just a "has been drip under pressure." ;)

I wasn't exactly a novice at this sort of thing...I recall changing out the hard drive

on a G5 tower and adding some storage to a laptop once. I was the

person who was called on back in the day when I was teaching elementary

art and our teachers were just getting started with computers and

that thing called the WWW. :) I was their troubleshooter - but I enjoyed it.

In spite of all that, I had completely forgotten that you'd told me about one of the feet

falling off during this process. All feet are still intact, but if one falls off, it won't bother

me. ;) Thanks for reminding that was probably what the black plastic piece was! Short

memory. ;)

How are you at helping to get apple mail to work with gmail? I had it going fine, and even have

it set up on my iphone & the new MacBook Air has it set up fine - since I set it up with

Time Machine. However, this older laptop is refusing to talk to and allow gmail now. I'm not

really sure when it happened...but it's not cooperating! lol I get errors to talk to the administrator. hrm.

Thank you, again, SO MUCH for pointing me to the right place order this new battery!! It really was

a breeze changing it out & seems to be working fine. The machine certainly is faster opening apps -

my beloved photoshop and bridge!!

Best regards,

Great! Glad everything worked out. You won't need to think about a battery again for a long time.

A G5 tower was like working on a diesel locomotive compared to recent Macs. Their pieces are becoming microscopic. Try not to inhale their little screws and fasteners.

I don't use Google products so I can't help with them.

I didn't want to use google products either, but our local provider

stopped providing email service...after looking high and low I finally just

settled on google. For whatever reason, the google mail works fine on

this new MacBook Air, and also on my iPhone. It just stopped liking my MacBook Pro.

Thank you again, for helping me locate a battery and all the additional information.

I appreciate it more than you can know!
