iPod touch 2nd gen

I factory reset an iPod touch 2nd gen, connected it to my computer via cable and iTunes opened and asked if I wanted to set it up as new. I said yes, as new. I am struggling to get it to connect to App Store, safari, Game Center, the whole kit and kaboodle. It won’t recognize my Apple ID password. Help!! Is it useless now?

That model cannot access the store any longer. The minimum iOS version required in order to access the iTunes Store is iOS 10.0. A 2nd generation iPod Touch will be running iOS 4.2.1 and cannot be updated any further.

No.

While there are unlikely to be any apps that will run on iOS 4.2.1, you can still use it for music. You can also buy music from the iTunes Store on your desktop and then use iTunes to copy that music to your iPod. You can also buy music from other online stores such as Amazon and Bandcamp, that you can add to your iTunes library and then copy to your iPod.

If you have a modern Mac computer, using MacOS Catalina or later, then instead of iTunes, you use Finder, which is pre-installed on the Mac to manage the iPod.
