Can't Open TurboTax 2023 on macOS Sonoma 14.3 (latest version)

Hey Everyone,

I attempted to install TurboTax 2023 on my MacBook Pro OS Sonoma Version 14.3 with an M1 chip. When I go to open the app it bounces on the dock for 5-6 seconds, and then disappears. I spent over 2 hours on the phone with Intuit Customer Service troubleshooting and they could not help me resolve the problem. I spent close to another hour on the phone with Apple Customer Service who told me to contact the 3rd-party developer (i.e., Intuit). I have tried all of the recommendations on both the Apple Support and Intuit on forums, but no luck.

Has anyone with a 2020 (or newer) MacBook Pro been able to successfully install TurboTax 2023? I also tried uninstalling the 2023 version and reinstalled 2022 TurboTax, but it does not work either.

Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks!

I have(had) the same issue; just tried it again, and, now it is working. Maybe something in the Cleveland water; my suggestion is to try again. Earlier, I had to force quit a number of times, which sends a report to Apple.

Yes, I have the same problem. I have to reboot the computer to get it to open. I can't open both 2022 and 2023 at the same time. Someone indicated that the VPN might be the problem, so I turned mine off. Also, it might have to do with the internet verification. I haven't tried turning off my internet to see if that helps. This is really annoying. If they don't solve it this year, I will not be using TurboTax next year. It is way too flaky to be reliable if I have to go into it in the future.

I installed TurboTax 2023 on my MacBook Air M2. It works "sometimes". When it doesn't work, the RedCircle Check mark bounces a few times and then does nothing. Rebooting the MacBook does not help. Solution: reinstall the TurboTax from the Mac_TurboTax_+Download.dmg package. After installation TurboTax updates itself and then continues from the same tax file previously worked on. To be careful I copy my tax file ".23.tax2023" before reinstalling TurboTax. TurboTax eventually fails again and then I need to reinstall it again... I have not found a more permanent solution.

I have a Macbook purchased new in Feb, of 23. I did my taxes on this computer with them last year with no problem. Turbo Tax sent me the download for this year for Mac in the version of Turbo tax I use because I have rental income. I enter my user name, passcode and all of the other required information to download. The last box is telling them whether you have Windows or Mac. It WILL NOT let me click on Mac and keeps saying it is not compatible with Mac. I have been on phone twice for a total of 5 hours with turbotax and they don't know how to fix it!! I am beyond frustrated! I could do an extension, but if you think you may owe, you have to send a check for that amount. How would I know what I owe? I have always gotten a refund but I have a feeling this year is different based on everyone I have talked to.

That is the most likely problem. If this is the actual name of your file…

.23.tax2023

…then it's why you're having so much trouble. Files or folders that begin with a period tells Unix to hide that item. It also makes it difficult for apps to handle them, if it can see them at all.

Remove the leading period.

This is the highest version available for the Mac:

TURBOTAX DESKTOP ADVANTAGE HOME AND BUSINESS TAX YEAR 2023 MAC

DOWNLOAD

If instead you obtained TurboTax Business, that only runs on PCs.

I have the same problem. Running 14.4 on a mac mini M1.

TT launches, checks for updates, downloads and installs them if necessary, then I get the spinning beach ball of death. If I just wait, it usually finished in what seems like an endless amount of time, but is less than 60 seconds and will open the last tax return I worked on open a blank return. If I try to open a return before it finishes on it's own (File->open recents->[select a return]) I will end up having to force a quit.

I recommend launching TT and other than clicking OK when it asks if you want to install updates DO NOTHING until TT opens up a return. It doesn't always work, but it's the most likely way to get TT going.

I hope Intuit is listening and gets on this problem. It's really a pain in the neck and makes me think I should switch to different tax software.

PS what I described above is what it does most of the time. The behavior seems variable.
