What happens when you close a Family group - can you move the stored data?

My husband is the organiser of our Apple Family. He died three months ago. I have read that I can’t change the organiser so I need to set up a new Family. What happens to all the data we have backed up and stored and all the purchases?

iPhone 11, iOS 17

You don't need to move it. What you need to do is ensure each member has their own subscription to meet their storage needs. If you should decide to form a new family group, one person can take out a family level subscription so you can all share again.

In the meantime see this article for information about how to request access to a deceased family member's Apple account data, and possibly their equipment --> How to request access to a deceased family member's Apple account - Apple Support

You can then close the family sharing group. Although you could each just leave, if there are children in the group they need to be transferred.
