The blood oxygen sensor can not be physically removed, it can only be disabled for existing Apple Watch models if the watch has the modified watchOS software installed. But, this will only be the case for models sold after January 18th 2024.

  • The ability to measure blood oxygen is no longer available on Apple Watch units sold by Apple in the United States beginning January 18, 2024. These are indicated with part numbers ending in LW/A. Learn how to identify your Apple Watch.

Please see my post of 4/3/24 at 8:30 AM (assuming Cuppertino time) This is what I received from a KaeBFly:

"No they won’t. And honestly it’s odd that you updated (I assume you mean the watchOS) on a 7 and lost the feature. But if that’s the case then no….unless you are in the return/exchange period for a watch you recently purchased you will not be given a refund. Terms and conditions states that changes can occur at any time so the risk of losing a feature you like has always existed."

It says this was posted, but apparently not. The reason I updated is because: I ordered a new 9 and prepped my 7 to be returned as a trade in. Got the 9 and no Oxygen sensor so I undid the pairing from my iPhone from the new 9 because I am returning it within the return period. So I went to re-pair my 7 and had to go through an updating process, then lo and behold, no Oxy sensor. Now the unposted (that says it is posted) response says, "changes can occur at any time so the risk of losing a feature you like has always existed" So.....................I guess when Apple gets hit with more antitrust y'all may very well be at "risk of losing a feature you like". Just thought everyone should know that is Apple policy.

One of the reasons I purchased the watch is the blood oxygen feature I am 90 and have been told to monitor my blood oxygen but my new model 10 does not have it

Apple never said that the Watch 10 (in the U.S.) was able to monitor blood oxygen.

There are blood oxygen monitors easily available at major drugstore chains and from places like Amazon. I bought one during COVID that was less than $50 and will sync to Apple's Health app. It's very easy to use.

Your statement is incorrect. My watch was purchased in 2021. After the most recent update I had to do to pair the watch to a new device, the sensor was removed. The widget on the watch face was absent and the app was completely gone from the device. I called Apple which confirmed that’s what happened but was an error and provided steps to reinstate it.

The screenshot below is just of the first page and the circled part also lets you know that future updates may not include all existing software features…ie features can change or be removed. Feel free to read the rest of the terms and conditions to see other details you may not be aware of but has been disclosed. Also be aware that each time the terms are updated we have access to reading them to see what has changed and how it affects us.

Your report goes against all information published by Apple about the issue. I seriously question whether the genius they spoke with gave them the correct information. Have your parents actually received the replacement watch yet? Have they checked to see if the feature is actually disabled? And what model did they originally buy and when?

"If their watch is a series 9 or Ultra 2 and it has to be replaced (not just fixed but actually swapped out with another watch) then yes, since due to the current legal restraint it would have to be replaced with a 9/Ultra 2 that has the feature disabled."

Where are you getting this information from? Please supply corroboration of your assertion by providing a link to an official Apple confirmation of this. Otherwise it’s just your opinion.
