The blood oxygen sensor can not be physically removed, it can only be disabled for existing Apple Watch models if the watch has the modified watchOS software installed. But, this will only be the case for models sold after January 18th 2024.

  • The ability to measure blood oxygen is no longer available on Apple Watch units sold by Apple in the United States beginning January 18, 2024. These are indicated with part numbers ending in LW/A. Learn how to identify your Apple Watch.

Just take your watch to the Apple Store and have them put in a new battery. Thats what I’m going to do on my 6 Hermès’ once it gets to 80%. $100.

Thanks but my watch doesn't currently need a new battery.

While things may be different for the Hermes model, for most watches, Apple doesn't just replace the battery the way they don on an iPhone. They give you a refurbished watch that already has a new battery in it.

Ummmm….get busted for what exactly? The terms and conditions exist…many of us don’t bother to read them but that doesn’t mean we can’t be expected to know the info exists (choosing to accept the terms and conditions without reading them is completely on us. I am guilty of this too BUT I don’t try to pretend like me not reading them means it’s not my fault that I don’t know something that is within them).

Also, let’s be clear. I stated (and it is still there so not sure what your claim of me not wanting to be busted….like I have a stake in Apple other than being a customer and user of their products just like you) “Terms and conditions states that changes can occur at any time so the risk of losing a feature you like has always existed”. This is true. You didn’t say you upgraded to a new device. You stated that you on your watch 7 which is why I clearly stated I assume you were referring to the watchOS. Leaving out other details makes it very difficult to know you are saying something else. To falsely claim something I posted was unposted is ridiculous. Now if you’re trying to imply I didn’t post the terms and conditions for you….you would be correct. I did not. I didn’t need to. Everyone can access them on the Apple website and read through them to verify what verbiage they use in regards to everything including the disclaimer that changes to features can occur. Does everyone know? No, but it’s not because the info isn’t available. It’s simply because most people don’t take the time to read through the often long term and conditions presented by Apple or most other things we deal with.

Exactly. So what exactly did you think you were calling me out on? I provided a factual statement to you. So….explain to me your comment that I didn’t want to be busted made any sense? You not liking the fact that we are always at risk of losing a feature we like and we agreed to that even if we chose not to actually read the terms and conditions before clicking that we accepted them? I wasn’t “busted” on anything. Sorry but that was a comment that made absolutely no sense whatsoever

I purchased new Apple Watch 12/27/23. It had O2 monitor and ECG working until 01/07/24, when the first update removed both functions. Can’t tell you how disappointed I am. I’m 74, an avid Apple owner/user since 1991, and have relied on those functions since my first Apple Watch. If the January 18, 2024 cut off date is valid, how can I get these vital functions restored?

I realize that I am late to this chain, but Costco still sells the Ultra 2 with oxygen sensor. Costco has a great return policy so makes me consider rolling the dice and if an update disables the feature, then must return. Costco website currently has them on sale and shows 4 version of Ultra 2, one which clearing states "With Blood Oxygen Feature"

Any thoughts?

I inquired about the benefits of Apple 10 Smart Watch with a Verizon salesperson. Not once was I informed about the disabled O2 sensor. I accidentally read about it on line. So for Apple to say I would buy the watch knowing that the issue of O2 sensor being disabled is not true. I decided to save my money and keep with my Fitbit Blaze! The disabling of sensor could be in the courts for years because it involve money that Apple has to put out! No thank you 🙂‍↔️
