how to share a scanner

I have a Canoscan LIDE120 scanner attached over USB to a Monterey system. Works great. I would like to share this scanner with a second machine on the network, also running a contemporary operating system. Is that possible? If so, how exactly? No question that the second machine could, in principle, just log into the first, and keep a shared folder there, but I'd like to keep the scanner files off the desktop of the first.

I guess I'd like to use the scanner on the second machine without any impact on the first.

Thanks. I think that's the answer. There used to be a "scanner sharing" feature long ago, but that disappeared. And yes, that's true, I can save the scan file anywhere, but I'd rather not have the user on the second computer opening up the Canon IJ Scan Utility app on the desktop of the scanner-local coomputer, which is where it would open. The idea would be for the user on the second computer to use the scanner in a way that is entirely invisible to the user on the computer the scanner is connected to. That's what I call true "scanner sharing".
