The bottom button on the right is grey. It should be blue probably because the superdrive is a removable volume. Click or slide that button so it turns blue. That should allow the Music App you are using to access the Superdrive.

This is under System Settings>Privacy & Security>Files and Folders.

I know the current MacBook Air lacks the USB-A port.

When I see an adapter with the Apple superdrive, 99% of the time it will not work.

Even a USB extension will not allow it to work.

I know Apple adapters usually work better in almost all cases, this is the one case where I don't think it matters.

I have a superdrive, but I don't have an Apple adapter to try with my MacBook Air m2.

Drickbay, connect your Superdrive to your MacBook, open Music App, insert a CD into the Superdrive and check if Music App rips the CD. Let us know. It should be working now because all security restrictions on removable devices (i. e. your Superdrive) have been wiped away. This is reason why Luckesdera’s Music App works with its removable device, exactly because he has NO security restrictions regarding the access of his Music App to his removable drive.

The pop-up appears when you have a CD drive connected.

It’ll show up in the area circled in red, in the image below, when the CD is connected.

Do you have a CD drive connected?

What is the CD drive you are using here, as well?

If it is an Apple SuperDrive, do you have the Apple USB-C to USB-A adapter?

We’ll look into the -54 in a bit, if we can’t get the rip working.

Yes, that's right. I have just spoken with Apple Customer Care about this. They told me Drickbay has better call them directly and show the problem on screen. More than this I cannot do. I am sorry.

I DID THAT! I did see ANYTHING saying “Safe Mode”….

If booted in Safe Mode, “When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.”

If that’s not happening, then this Mac is in a very unusual configuration, and which may well be related to the other issues.

So… to confirm… you cannot get this Mac into Safe Mode?

No it was brand new. my older CDs that has been on this computer before is having the same error. So it’s the computer. I got the drive the same time i got the computer November 2022. I guess i’ll just have to download from Amazon from now on.. Because to get it to an Apple store someone has to take me, im disabled and can’t drive and my family i live with are having too much on thier plate to worry about this.. i could go on but my situation is complicated..

Very good - it sounds like he has a hardware combination that works and it is a software issue.

On my MacBook Air with Sonoma 14.3, I do not see the Apple Music App appearing in the "Files & Folders" system setting. I suspect it is added when you connect the drive to the MacBook Air and then you must enable its use with the removable volume. I have many other applications listed in the "Files & Folders" system setting for those applications that I am installed and am now running but not the Music App. You can easily delete applications listed in the "Files & Folders" system setting using the minus button at the bottom after selecting an app. However, there is no plus button to add applications in the "Files & Folders" system setting. Since Apple is still selling the superdrive, they likely are still supporting it so this is just a strange issue.

i tried a different CD.. same thing and then i opened the CD in finder the mudic files on the CD is showing up as AIFF. i never heard that before. I think something happened when i recently signed onto Apple music because when first put the CD in it gave me a message which i can not remember what it said but it probably had something to do with syncing my library or something which i did not want because it will change all the music tags that i manually put. I mightve misunderstood the message and screwed up big time🫢😩😞

Where’s “settings”?

Settings is in the menu bar at the top of the MacBook Air display, tap the name of the app (Music) and select Settings.

The macOS menu bar looks like this: What’s in the menu bar on Mac? - Apple Support

The Music app menu will be to the immediate right of the Apple menu, when the Music app is selected.
