The bottom button on the right is grey. It should be blue probably because the superdrive is a removable volume. Click or slide that button so it turns blue. That should allow the Music App you are using to access the Superdrive.
This is under System Settings>Privacy & Security>Files and Folders.
I had the CD in and the drive connected… for some reason nothing showing up there (you circled) 🤷 it shows up in the music app. CD won’t even play either… but it’s playing on separate CD player stereo though normally.
AIFF is apple's lossless audio file format. This is what you want.
You can drag and drop these into your iTunes folder on your drive where your other music is located.
Disadvantageously, the song names may not come over with them so you may need to manually add song name titles and CD name to the songs in your hard drive/SSD.
Now its come down to having to restart my mac in safe mode, that might cause a whole new set of problems ☹️ i guess i’ll just have to stick with downloading from amazon…i bought the drive and the adapter the same time i bought the Mac computer November 2022 been using the same things ever since. I just had a recent update on my mac and i also recently subscribed to Apple Music. I just bought couple of CDs yesterday that i wanted to rip last 2 to add to my offline library. No biggie. 🤷 i just dont want to cause more problems by putting it in safe mode, there’s no telling what that would do to it… i just don’t trust it… i’m sorry..❤️ Thanxalot for your help… eventually i’ll keep looking into this.
I googled how to put my computer in safe mode…
I tried that and i did not see anything saying “safe boot” i tried 3 times it just restarted normaly.. i even turned it off waited a few seconds turned it back on pressing “shift” same thing… 🤷
ok.. i got this
Where do i go from here?
Really, do i have to go through all this rigamarole just to get my mac ripping CDs again? i don’t have VPN, i don’t have any antivirus, i never added or downloaded any strange apps or programs. i just have Amazon prime video.
The only 2 things i did do was update my computer and signed on to Apple Music streaming. other than that NOTHING… So..🤷🤷
I was in “System settings” because there was a “System Prefrence”
Where is “Files & Folders”?
And these messages are not in order of latest post, im having a hard time reading through this, messages are all mixed up.
Is it this? there’s no files & folders there. (and no i can not sync my personal library because it will change the album cover i had to manually put on. I synced before and i had to go back unsync it and put back all the correct album covers i had on there.)
Open FILES & FOLDERS, scroll it till finding Music App, click on the tiny arrow on the left of the icon. A pop down menu appears. Click on the button (it becomes blue) to activate your external Superdrive letting Music App to interact with it.
I guess my CD ripping days are over. ☹️ I don’t know why, i didn’t make any changes i only updated which i do whenever the notice shows up. never happened like that before. I know subscriping to Apple Music didn’t do anything. I just want to know what caused it. that’s all. seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, mac just decided it didn’t want to rip CDs anymore so…🤷🤷
The superdrive is a removable volume. If you click the removable volume button under the blue Music bar on the right, it should turn blue for an ON state. Then, in the ON state, how does the superdrive work?
I will try to get the same Apple adapter that you have but it will take a few days.
That way I can emulate the exact situation you have.
I checked the Apple web pages, and I am kind of surprised they are still selling the superdrive.
I will have an older superdrive than you, but it may be close.
I am running 14.2.1 Sonoma on my Mac Studio. I think my MacBook Air is on 14.3. There may be slight differences.
There is a "Sort By:" selector on the first page under your question. Selecting "Best" is confusing. Select Newest, if you want the newest on top. Select Oldest if you want the oldest on top under your question. There are some features under your profile settings (under your icon in the upper right corner) as well that might effect this.
I saw a question by email but could not see it posted here.
In the upper left hand corner of your computer screen you will see the Apple Icon.
Click on the Apple Icon and it opens a pull down menu.
The second choice down in the pull down menu is "System Settings.
I do not think your problem has to do with your hardware (i. e. your external Superdrive). It is a matter of software instead. If you are a little patient I can ask Apple Care how to add Music App to the Files & Folders so you will be able to activate it and rip your CDs again.
Where’s “settings”?
