Labelling mystery - please help :)
Hi.
I feel as though I’m going round in circles on this one and would really appreciate the knowledge of the Apple hive. :)
I recently purchased a 15 inch M2 MacBook Air from an authorised supplier/retailer.
I ordered the following:
Apple 2023 Apple MacBook Air 15.3", M2 Processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Space Grey.
When I received my order, I excitedly turned the box over to open it and discovered that it had two labels side by side (I’ll try to attach a photo to my post). One reads in large letters 8GB unified memory. My obvious instinct was/is that this is incorrect - given that I’d ordered the 16.
I called the customer service team at the retailer (trying different depts) and received no firm reply. I therefore returned to the store in person (with the unopened machine) and asked for advice.
I was told that 8GB unified memory equates to 16GB ram, so I have the right machine - but can anyone tell me if this is true or if I’ve been fobbed off. The price difference is £200, so is not insignificant + I chose the 16GB for future proofing/ heavier tasks I do.
although I’d been told otherwise on the phone, the store did have another 16GB in stock, but this did not have the same style of labelling for comparison. The assistants (whilst helpful) were not keen to switch the boxes over - citing that my machine had already been registered to me on their database.
Has anyone, who ordered a 16GB or 24GB, still got their box? If so, did you have labels like the one in my photo?
just prior to my visit to store, I did spot that on the smaller of the two labels, there is small lettering which indicates 16GB (within a string of other numbers relating to the GPU and CPU eta) but it isn’t clear whether this is right. (I’ve highlighted this in my photo, too)
This is the first purchase of this kind of value that I’ve ever made, so the shine has been taken off a little. First world problems though, of course!
in short - should the label say 16GB if I’d purchased the 16GB machine or is it feasible for it to say 8GB and have been configured to 16? If the latter, how can I be 100% sure?
