iPhone full but when I delete photos it puts them straight back

Hi. I have an iphone SE 2020. My phone storage was almost full. Photos are backed up to icloud. I deleted 26 videos from phone tonight but storage went up to more than it started at. Offloaded several apps - a few GB, deleted lots of Whatsapp content and texts but again space went back up to capacity. Deleted photos but they all go straight back on and 'deleted photos' folder is empty. Can anyone please help? Thanks

Probably you have synced these Photos from your Mac/PC through iTunes. UN-sync then they would be gone from iPhone.

UN-Sync photos to your device

  1. Connect your device to your Mac.
  2. You can connect your device using a USB or USB-C cable or using a Wi-Fi connection. To turn on Wi-Fi syncing, see Sync content between your Mac and iPhone or iPad over Wi-Fi.
  3. In the Finder  on your Mac, select the device in the Finder sidebar.
  4. Select Photos in the button bar.
  5. Note: When iCloud Photos is turned on, no photo syncing options appear when you select Photos in the button bar.
  6. Select “Sync Photos to your device from” tickbox, then choose Photos, Pictures or a folder from the pop-up menu.
  7. Uncheck Sync photos
  8. Click on Apply / Sync

Hi

Thank you so much for your replies. I didn't do anything through iTunes but the phone has been set to sync photos to icloud via settings for a year or more. I was logged into iCloud.com only (not iTunes) on the laptop to download some older photos to the HDD when the problem started. After closing iCloud.com the problem continued initially - everything I deleted came straight back on - but after a while the problem went away and I was able to delete things ok. Relieved but still worried in case it happens again. I haven't gone back onto icloud.com since but I need to, to download some more. Does any of that make sense and is there anything I can do to make sure the problem doesn't repeat?

Thank you.
