Hi, I have bought both Apple adapters and the relevant firewire cable - I am transferring from Canon MV530i to Mac mini 2018 OS Ventura 13.6.1. I have tried using FCP, iMovie and QuickTime. But none of them are recognising my camcorder. I have tried so many times but the camcorder just never shows. I don't have another computer to tryout on. I Would greatly appreciate some help. Thank you

It seems that you have the right cables and adapters, but just to confirm:
Thunderbolt 3-Thunderbold 2 adapter;
Thunderbolt 2-Firewire 800 adapter;
Firewire 800 (9-pin) to Firewire 100 (4-pin) cable to the camera
Also:
1) Is the camera turned on and in playback (not camera) mode?
2) What do you see in System Information under Thunderbolt and under Firewire?
DV cameras are still supported in Ventura, and in Sonoma too (though after 14.1 you have to activate "legacy support", as I wrote above).
Did you Option-click the Apple menu, choose System Information and looked at what appears under Thunderbolt and Firewire? Does anything appear there?
Are you sure you are running Ventura?
Just in case you happen to be running Sonoma, you may have to turn on "legacy support".
I'm thinking that you may want to try and use a Video capture device. that is how I connect camcorders and VHS machines to my Mac for use with QuickTime Player. I would share the specific one I use, but it is not compatible with any macOS after Catalina.
Just checking and it reads Thunderbolt 1-4 inactive? nothing about firewire

Yes the camcorder plays fine in VCR mode no problem. But just like it has never shown up in FCP, iMovie and QuickTime it is not recognised either anywhere in Finder, or the locations list. I am fairy sure I have tried every possible option. I can only think that one of the adapters is faulty or it is simply that the camcorder is no longer supported? well at least it does not appear on the list.
oh yes under Systems it does pick up the Thunderbolt to firewire adapter but NOT the camera when I run the video.
