Email sent as text message on iPhone

Hello, I have an iPhone 15, plz excuse my ignorance-I have asked a teacher at my child’s school several times for her phone number, with no success. Instead she continues to dodge the question and includes me with the other group emails. A little bit ago I went to reply to her email and it said “send message” as an option and I pressed the it. Took me to the text message screen. I wrote my short text and embarrassingly I ended it with this is why we need to switch numbers. I had no clue it would send. But I pressed send like a typical text and off it went. I am befuddled. What is this magic LOL? Did my text go to her email ? Does she somehow have her email linked with her number?

thank you advance

Text messages can only be sent to an email address if it is associated with an Apple ID. Otherwise, sending text messages to an email ID will not be possible. It's important to note that when the message is sent to an Apple ID, it will appear in the Message app rather than the inbox of the associated email account, similar to the reception of iMessage/SMS/MMS.

We are preparing to take 150 10th graders 200 miles away. Phone numbers for the students parents who are driving and chaperoning are a must. Each parent is taking several students as well in their own vehicles. With a convoy this size and spread out the adults do not have time to email each other while driving or an emergency. Phone numbers are part of it.

This is something you will have to resolve with the school or teacher.

That had nothing to do with my original tech question being I saw the opportunity to send a message as a text to her email and was inquiring if possible it would communicate. You answered it speaking nothing of the operation of my phone but spoke of her prerogatives and potential rules she must follow. Then said I would have to take it up with the teacher. So I have learned nothing from you than I didn’t already know.

please leave me alone

The technical support answer was given before I entered the discussion. Please review SravanKrA's post. It's the first answer.

You want a technological solution to a problem that isn't a technological problem. You want to text someone who, for whatever reasons, does not want to give you their mobile number. Unless you can convince the, preferably politely, to do so, you can't message them.
