Share to gmail on sharesheet not working

When I try to share something such as a photo or a note, I normally click on the share icon and it opens up the sharesheet (at least, that's what I think it's called). Gmail is one of the options there alongside AirDrop, Messages, Instagram, etc., and I've used it regularly over the years to send stuff from my phone to my work email.

However, now when I click the Gmail icon, I am unable to do so. Something seems to happen in the background, as if the app is trying to open a new email window, but then it doesn't open, and it brings me back to the sharesheet. I've shut down and restarted the Gmail app, and the phone also, but it still won't work.

I can go into the Gmail app, and add the photo as an attachment, but that's a few extra steps that I haven't needed to do until now.

I have an iPhone 11 on iOS 17.3. This happened on iOS 17.2.1 also.

Any help would be appreciated.

Integrate your Gmail account seamlessly into the iOS Mail app for a streamlined email experience. By doing so, you not only consolidate your email management but also gain the ability to effortlessly share photos and files directly from your device using the convenient share sheet feature.

By incorporating your Gmail account into the iOS Mail app and utilizing the share sheet, you not only centralize your communication but also make the process of sharing multimedia content and files a seamless and intuitive experience on your iOS device. This integration optimizes your productivity and ensures a more connected and efficient digital workflow.

What SravanKrA seems to be suggesting is that you connect the native Mail account to your Gmail account, and then share to Mail instead of sharing to Gmail. Your sent mail will still appear within Gmail, so it’s a win. I would just add that you should be careful about setting iCloud backup options. I don’t bother to back up mail (and spend money on its storage) since Gmail is already in the cloud.
