Ipod Shuffle not appearing in iTunes

I have a fully updated Windows 10 and the latest version of ITunes. I have an iPod shuffle 2nd gen that I've used without an issue for years. Just the other day I fired up iTunes to add some new songs to my iPod but iTunes wouldn't register it. It doesn't seem like Windows is recognising it as the iPod doesn't charge or anything when I plug it in to the USB port. The light on the iPod flashes briefly when it's first plugged in but then nothing. I have spent days on this, trying to resolve it. I've tried older versions of ITunes but nothing I've tried will allow me to use my iPod and iTunes just won't recognise it. Can anyone help and let me know what I'm doing wrong please? I love my Shuffle and want to keep using it if I can. Thank you.

Hi - that's a good point about the battery but it charges fine when I plug it into a USB socket on the wall or something similar and I can happily listen to the music that's on there for a number of hours before the battery is depleted.


I did install Itunes on my son's PC (Windows 11, mine is Windows 10) and connected my Ipod and it worked! I got a pop up saying I needed to install an extra bit of software - Ipod support I think it was, and then my Ipod showed up and it all worked fine!


So, I uninstalled Itunes from my Windows 10, removed any possible references to Apple, Bonjour, Itunes etc. and re-installed the latest version as I did on my son's PC... connected the Ipod.... and nothing!!!! This is so frustrating as I know it does work, just not on my laptop. Something must be different somewhere but for the life of me I don't know where or what...


Do you have any further advice?
