Recently whenever I get an email on my gmail account I do not get a notification that a new email is received. Instead, it shows as a read email and contains a red flag. This is not happening to any other email on my phone. Already tried removing and adding the account again and did a software update. No luck. Any suggestions?

Are you referring to the Gmail app or iOS Mail app?
In the Mail app , you can flag important emails, create flagged mailboxes, and flag emails from VIPs. You can also block emails from specified senders.
