It appears since Tags were introduced, the "Return" key no longer completes the Rename function in File-Rename in Mac Preview. TAB key is needed to make the renamed file stick. I noticed this answer in another posting which was already closed.
Anyone else notice this? Sounds like a bug, as in why does Return no longer complete the renaming?

The cause turned out to be a hidden setting in ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist If NSAutomaticWindowAnimationEnabled is set to NO, then the problem occurs. If I turn it back to YES or delete that setting, renaming files in Preview works
again.
For those of you using something like TinkerToll or Onyx, the hidden setting is in the General area and is called "Animate opening windows".
Make sure you have a good backup of your machine before you attempt this.... the usual disclaimers apply.
Surprisingly rapid turn around and conclusion to your 3 year old question...

I noticed this a while ago, but could not find an answer until now.
However I don't believe this is an issue restricted to Preview, it seems to affect all Apps where one can rename a file in the File-Rename dialog.
