Music App won't open on iMac

When I try to open the Music app on my iMac it opens but nothing loads, it then quits and I get crash report with the re-open button. If I click on that same thing happens again. I've this M3 iMac for a couple of weeks now and up until today I've had no issues. I tried pressing the option and command buttons when opening. Same result. When I hold the option key down and try to create a new library I get a pop-up saying I can't change the library because it's in use by a device. I've tried every tip suggested in the forums but nothing seems to work. All OS and software is up to date. If it helps I was creating a new playlist at the time. It quit when I tried to open said playlist. I do not have a Music subscription. The music is downloaded content only.

Thanks, Mark

Hi, All of the above have been tried and failed. I did find one more tip that's seems to have worked so far(fingers crossed) I deleted this file in preferences under my user ID. Other than having to reset my view preferences it seems to have fixed the issue. I created a new playlist and burned it to a CD with no crashes.

You may want to check you are signed in (to your Mac) with your correct Apple ID:

How to: Sign in with your Apple ID - Apple Support

With the Music App closed (quit):

You might want to try restarting your Mac: How to: Restart your Mac. (Eg: deletes temporary files, re-establishes connections etc, may update recent changes / may restore order.)

Sign back in to your Mac after it restarts.

Then re-open the Music app and check if you can use it ok.

Eg: In the Music app on your Mac, choose Account > Sign In (you can sign out here too).

As you are not a subscriber, you can still:

listen to Apple Music radio for free.

listen to music synced to iPhone from a Mac

play and download any previous iTunes Store purchases

More troubleshooting if needed:

You could try starting your Mac in Safe Mode. Then leave safe mode by restarting your Mac normally. (Choose Apple menu > Restart). See whether the issue is solved. : Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support
