Does exporting with Audio (when you don't need it) impact negatively on file size, export times and wear and tear on computer?

This guy on the iMovie forum thinks it does . . .

I think the effect will be negligible whilst he thinks it is large.

I could be wrong . . . what do you think?

It's certainly worrying him.

I exported a Project that was 13 minutes, 30 seconds long, as H264.

With sound the file is 1.59 GB.

Without sound the file is 1.57 GB.

Thus the audio is eating up only .02 GB, or 20.48 MB of drive space.

I remember at one time this would have been a HUGE file, 20.5 MB. The external hard drive on my Mac Plus was 20MB and considered fantastically massive. But by today's norms, it's negligible.

It stands to reason that:

a) Audio takes a minute amount of space compared to video

b) Processing video and audio takes a little more than processing just the video

In the grand scheme of things, this is really irrelevant.

Wear and tear... really?!

Without even looking at the video, a single word comes to mind.

It starts with "p" and ends with "noia".

But I will look at it, and if I find something worthy of mention, I will report back.
