Apple remote lost TV volume control

One day ago my Apple TV (wifi only 3rd gen 4K 2022) remote lost the ability to control TV volume. Perplexed (still), I changed setting to TV via IR from “auto”, as suggested by Apple, yet I have been unable to control TV volume. Anyone have success solving loss of Apple remote TV volume control?

The Siri Remote sends IR volume control signals directly to the TV or audio system, not using the Apple TV box for this. So please verify an unobstructed line-of-sight between the remote and the IR receptor on the TV or audio system.

Else try to restart just the remote, as described in: If the volume buttons on your Apple TV remote aren't working - Apple Support
