TV no longer opens folders containing videos?

This is not directly an FCP problem.

A couple of weeks ago a 7 year old 48" Samsung TV stopped being able to open folders (containing videos) on a USB memory stick which it has been able to do for years.

Initially I thought the stick had become faulty but the same problem occurred when I plugged in an HDD which has been working for years. Both the memory stick and HDD work as normal on other TVs.

My current theory is that maybe the TV had received an overnight update that had killed off its ability to open folders.

If the videos are not in folders, they open and play normally but as I have so many it is necessary to keep them in folders so that they are organised and not chaotic.

One "solution" would appear to be to reset the TV to its "as-new" condition but apparently Samsung has made it impossible to do this . . . though I will investigate further.

Has anyone come across this problem before and more importantly found a solution?

Both memory stick and HDD are MS-DOS (FAT32)
