What is the new icon next to time, top left on iPhone?

If ‘focus mode’ of any type … what is that and what does it do for privacy?

That's the icon for the Work Focus.

Set up a Focus on iPhone - Apple Support

Turn on or schedule a Focus on iPhone - Apple Support

Focus has nothing to do with privacy. It's a way of controlling what and who can notify you under different conditions.

The icon is for ‘work focus mode’ and can be edited, turned off, deleted, by swiping down from top right corner of iPhone - select next to the current focus button such as silent night mode, enter into settings.

Thanks to those who tried to help - I found the answer by researching online from other sources.
