Aperture replacement?
Aperture was brilliant, enabled me to work with my many thousands of photos, allowed me to catagorise them, edit etc etc. What is the replacement software? Thank you for any answers.

Maybe Adobe Lightroom Classic would work for you.
Here some information about the import

Apple does not offer a replacement for Aperture. You will have to find a suitable third-party application that will suit your needs.
Directly after Apple stopped the development of Aperture and did no longer offer updates or sell it at the App Store in 2015, we could least open the Aperture Libraries in Photos to get access to our photos in the Aperture Libraries. This would create a new Photos Library from the Aperture Library, with all albums and folders, and with the edited versions paired with the originals.
The migration to Photos is no longer supported since macOS 13, see: Migrating an Aperture Library as a Library is no longer supported on macOS 13 Ventura - Apple Community
All we can do now to access the items in our Aperture Libraries is to import the Aperture Library into a Photos Library. this will import the media from the aperture Library, but not the structure of the library. It is too late to save the albums or projects.
Do a Google search for "Digital Asset Management apps for Mac".
Some that you'l find are Adobe Light room, AD/DC, Capture One and File Camp among others.
As always I answer this question with a series of others:
How many items in your Library? How much does it grow per annum?
Are you a pro shooter? A serious hobbyist? A family snapper?
Shooting with what? A DSLR or other interchangeable lens camera? A Phone or point and shoot?
Shooting Raw or Jpegs?
