iOS 17.3 has broken Apple CarPlay

Since updating to iOS 17.3 Apple CarPlay no longer works for my iPhone in my car. It still works perfectly for my partner and daughter, who are still using iOS 17.2. Does Apple realise there is serious bug?

SOLUTION FOUND. I sell cars for a living and i found the fix for my customer and was curious to see if other people are having the issue:

the update moved carplay into the the restricted apps under screentime. To fix this go to settings>screen time> content & privacy restrictions> turn carplay BACK ON. Why the update switched it off is beyond me but that seems to be the fix 👍🏼

I had the same thing happen today. I have a brand new 2024 Honda CRV where the wireless CarPlay was working fine all morning. Fast forward to the evening, I noticed I don’t have the option to go to CarPlay anymore, but it still sees my iPhone as connected. I tap into it and it says “This device not being used for CarPlay”. Now I have an iPhone 15 Pro where I updated to iOS 17.3.1 yesterday. I’ve unpaired/re-paired 10 times already, hard rebooted, turned off/on, even done a clean install of the iOS all to no avail. I even checked the Honda system firmware and it’s up to date (I checked by connecting to a friend’s hotspot). In reading other posts on this thread, my only option is calling the dealer to see if they can provide a system update if that is different from a firmware update. Hopefully I won’t be charged since the car is a month old. This is crazy if I’m going to have to do this with every iOS update. The only workaround is by plugging it into the USB, but even then it asks “Do you want to enable wireless CarPlay?” which does nothing if you select to enable it and adds insult to injury.

That's completely untrue, though I'm happy to examine any data you have to the contrary.

Most CarPlay issues are resolved by resetting or rebooting the automotive head end, which tells you where the problem lies.

If there are issues involving Private Relay and the Wi-Fi connection to your car for wireless CarPlay, that's, again, proof that the issue is with your vehicle's CarPlay implementation.

Finally i found the solution. I fiddled around with settings like Toyota kody said but in my XR the carplay was still on under Restrictions. Tried to reset the mercedes infotainment system but did not succeed. Then I had a brainwave. I had seen "Favorites" under the phone settings in MB. There you can Add a favorite. Searched under "phone" and scoll down..... THERE YOU CAN ADD CARPLAY!!! WHY this is in beyond me but that did the job...

I have the same issue as well - was working fine up until the last update (17.3.1). My car will occasionally connect to carplay but either this only happens once or it'll try and connect and then fail.

It's quite frustrating - I rely on CarPlay for my satnav and cant see anything about this online other than this forum thread.

Will disconnect and reconnect it in the hope that works but like others on this thread will be waiting for next software update in the hope that fixes it as well.

This is just history repeating! The exact same thing happend with version 16.2.xxx after upgrading the carplay on my mercedes Atype stopped working. Tried everything and had to start using Siri. after version 16.3.x or later suddenly everything worked again. Had several discussions on why MB (mercedesbenz) should update my infotainment system but that is not the issue.

Further more i cannot downgrade to an older version where it all worked fine.. APPLE GIVE ME A SOLUTION!

They don't; the vast majority of car owners have not had issues.

Beyond that, being a developer you should also know that many auto makers source their vehicle entertainment systems from the same companies, so your assertion is not as ridiculous as you state.

For example, think of how many vendors would need to update products if there was a Linux or VxWorks bug that affected end users.
