Sudden loss of iPhone Comcast email access

Since Apple update 17.3.1 my wife and I can no longer receive Comcast’s email on our iPhones. We can access our Comcast email using iPhone Internet browsers, but not the iPhone Mail client. I’ve twice deleted, rebooted, and reinstalled the Comcast account via iPhone Settings/Mail, but I continue to get “Comcast not available.” What happened and when will Apple fix this?

Essentially, log into Xfinity email using a browser, select Settings upper right, Security, upper left check “Third Party” authorization.

It took four days and two new iPhones because it appears to me Comcast didn’t warn users of the security change. Special thanks to the above Apple Discussions thread!!! 👍👍

Thanks FelipeV! We did checked on line and confirmed all port numbers are current. The problem only seems to be our iPhone Mail client. Browser email work well consistently. When I was in town at the bank on their guest Wi-Fi, I got a sudden burst of Comcast email via the iPhone Mail client. I would then suspect my ISP, but comcast email is good via browser on home computers as well as via browser on the iPhones. I keep thinking there’s a driver issue between Xfinity and Apple’s Mail client interface software, but troubleshooting that declines into a finger pointing exercise. Somehow the Mail seems to be stalling in the server somewhere because of a missing handshake. But that’s all magic to me. Again, thanks for you post. We’ll keep watching port numbers. 👍

I think there is a compatibility issue with the iOS mail client after Comcast changed configurations. And if you access the mail server via a web browser, it could work because the URL will connect the browser with the correct port/configuration.

The fact that you are able to download emails when you connect via another ISP or data via the mail client, leads me to believe the problem is on Comcast's side.

As a rule of thumb, I try to stay clear of mail servers that the ISPs provide. I used to have a Roadrunner email, that gave constant errors via the mail client and when connecting from overseas, so I stopped using it. And it became worse when Spectrum bought RR.

A temporary solution (while you sort this out) is to have the Comcast emails forwarded to another email account (ie iCloud mail)?

I think someone at Xfinity or Apple or both has been reading our thread because everything seems to be working as it was before this popped up early this month. We returned home and Comcast/Xfinity email is flowing normally through the iPhone Mail client. We’ll never know what correction was required but for our part…my household that is…everything seems to be working. There was no need for the long drive, hassle and expense of replacing two iPhones ☹️. But, we are back to normal! Thanks FelipeV for your interest, involvement, insights, and extra effort! 👍👍

Addendum- having lost patience and given up trying to reinstall/configure and successfully set Comcast email to fwd to another email account (which worked successfully) - I tried again to reinstall on my iPhone today - with no great hopes - BUT!!!!!

WHAT A SHOCK - the reinstall worked - no delay - immediate acceptance and is now fully functional again.

Clearly, imo, someone at either Apple or Comcast have been listening to our issues - but no admission of guilt or explanations received - nor update to say all is running again😱.

happily resolved😀😀😀

well done team 👍👍

It's me again...spent the day on this... finally reset my password (once I found it) on all 3 of my affected devices in both in and outgoing settings - and after starting and re-starting each device... All I can suggest right now is that outgoing mail is finally working. For now.

While it MAY have been a solution, my settings were NOT the cause. That honor belongs to Apple or Comcast.

(I suspect the former.) Good luck, friends.

To all, I saw post that called out turn off wifi on your iPhone and suddenly everything was great and working. I am/was having the same issue on my iPhone so I tried turning off wifi on my iphone and wala I was getting emails.

However I also have the same issue with laptop using Microsoft office 365 Outlook, I am hardwired in to home network on Spectrum ( a competitor of Xfinity ) I wonder if they are blocking internet traffic from other internet providers.

I am wondering!!! Are you all that are having this issue on Xfinity's internet or are some of you traversing the internet via another internet provider.

Let me know.
