AirTag Stolen - No Longer in ‘Find My’

Hello, an AirTag connected to my son’s car keys were stolen with his car… of course. The AirTag disappeared from my ‘Find My’.

A couple of weeks late, I received an alert, via Safari, that AirTag is connected to my number and I must remove the battery to disable it. Well, I do t have the AirTag. What should I do?

The person that stole the AirTag now wants you to remove it from your Apple ID. Until the tag is removed, they cannot use it. No matter how many times they try to reset it. Don't make it easy for them.

Did you enable Lost Mode when the tag was stolen ... and included your phone# or email address? If you did, this is how they managed to get your number. You don't need to turn off Lost Mode, but it still may be possible to remove any contact information ... if you included any.
