Incoming calls default to iPhone speakers instead of bluetooth

When I answer incoming calls on my iPhone 8 the audio output automatically switches from my Bluetooth earbuds to the iPhone's built-in speakers. This only happens with incoming calls.

Should this matter, the Bluetooth earbuds I use are the Soundcore A20i.

I observe a problem when I am using the phone to listen to music via Bluetooth-connected audio equipment. I have experienced this problem with Sennheiser PXC-550 and PXC-500 Mk II headphones, as well as Sony WF-1000XM4 and WF-1000XM3 earbuds. I can be listening to music. My handset receives the call, and I can hear the "ring tone" over my headphones/earbuds to alert me to the caller. I swipe to take the call... and the audio for the call immediately switches away from my Bluetooth device and on to the handset. This happens with 100% consistency and is experienced across 4 different connected peripherals. It seems likely that this is an issue with an iOS configuration setting, but I've not found it yet. Any ideas please?

Audio switching on calls My 13Pro (ios 16.0), while on a phone call, randomly changes the audio source from bluetooth to headset from speaker to headset from headset from speaker to bluetooth to somethimes what appears to be nothing. At first I thought it was all to do with my Jabra 75E bluetooth headset. HOWEVER, even when earpieces are put in case or sitting on desk without being touched on desk... it changes audio sources . Very difficult to have a conversation. Any advice?

trying to get my phone call to play on my Bluetooth speakers My Bluetooth speakers are connected. I can play stuff on them with my iPhone (SE 2021, 16.6.1). I do Settings->Accessibility->Touch->Call Audio Routing->Bluetooth headset. I make a call. No audio comes out on the speakers. What am I doing wrong???
