Lost iCloud photos from 2018-2023 and I have backed up my phone to iCloud, and had different phones in this timr

I have iPhone 13 I got in 2022. The front camera stopped working a few months after I purchased it from one.co.nz. I pay for storage with iCloud and my phone is set to automatic backup, my phone is charged each night in wifi.

I took it back Feb 2024 and the they sent it away to be fixed and gave me a replacement phone. All the items were the same. When I got my old phone back the camera was fixed but I had lost all my photos back to 2018. I have had different iPhones over the past 6 years and never lost photos, does anyone know how I can get these back. I’ve tried to get different versions back but they have disappeared.

Apple support and the store have no answers. Help!!

You may be conflating iCloud sync with a backup made and stored on iCloud. Your iCloud backup of your device will include most of your data. But, if you sync photos to iCloud, they will no longer be part of the backup as those are already synced in iCloud. If you sent the device away, and did not log out or turn off iCloud, it's possible that the repair process deleted all of your current data on your device, which in turn updated iCloud and deleted all images. In that case, you might find your images in the Recently Deleted album at iCloud.com/photos.

All that you can do is to restore from your backups that you keep of your most important data.

Thanks! I use iCloud and have my photos back up turned on in my phone. I have had two iphones in this time and my photos transferred fine. I backed up my phone each time I changed phones, and it automatically backs up each night to iCloud. It was when I took it into the store to get fixed and it has been returned to me. I have pictures on there for compliance that I need to recover. Any more suggestions are most welcome please
