Power adapter Burned

My iPhone power adapter started fire while plugging in and fully burned, luckily nothing happened, otherwise a huge risk for the entire building !

How can I prevent my iPhone Power Chord from catching on fire? My power cord caught on fire a quarter of inch to half inch from where it plugs into my I phone 14 pro max. I’m extremely lucky I looked down to see this. If I was out mowing my house could have caught on fire. My cord wasn’t damaged I check it. The adapter for wall was checked at Verizon and my phone this morning they were fine. This is extremely upsetting then to be charged for a new cord only. 37.00. Will a higher wattage adapter than 12W damage my iPad? 12W USB Power Adapter for my ipad pro 12.9-inch appears to have died. i need to replace but not sure if getting higher than 12W will damage ipad. [Re-Titled by Moderator]
