text to numbers
Hello,
I imported a file from bank. In some of the columns numbers appear to be formatted as text and cannot use to add/ multiply etc. How do I covert the Numbers in text format to actual number.
thanks

Have you tried selecting the column and setting Data Format to Number?
If that doesn't work then is it possible that your Mac is set to a region that uses , as the decimal separator whereas the downloaded file uses . as the decimal separator (or vice versa).
If so,

Wonderful. It worked with option 2 (switch region) to where the file came from.
However region I had earlier and switched now have the same decimal format "." but in one column is recognised as Text
Yes, you have to first switch the region and then open (import) the file with the data. Then switch back.

However region I had earlier and switched now have the same decimal format "." but in one column is recognised as Text and the other region as Actual (Number). strange though.
