AirTags do not have a range of more than twelve feet

I just bought a four pack of air tags and connected one to each of my two dogs. Neither one has a range of more than twelve feet, which essentially makes them useless. I’ve googled for advice and followed their suggestions to no avail. I have shut down all sources of possible interference and have tried at different locations. Have reset my phone etc.

I had a couple of AirTags years ago and they worked great. But they have gotten lost in the woods. Any help would be appreciated as l know this is a common problem. I’ve seen many other complaints but no solutions. Thanks

AirTags rely on two things: 1) Bluetooth, and 2) the Apple Find My Network

In theory, the AirTag's Bluetooth beacon will transmit its ID about every 3-5 mins within its Bluetooth range (~30-40' in an unrestricted environment). As such, a number of things have to happen to see its location with the Find My app on your iPhone.

Your phone would need to be within that range during one or more of those beacon transmissions. If outside of that range, your phone will NOT be able to see any tag updates UNTIL another iPhone, with an active Internet connection, is within the tag's range ... and be there when the tag transmits.

If your goal is to track your dogs, then you should consider getting a dedicated tracker devices that is based on GPS, not Bluetooth.
