Migration Assistant Stalled

I just got a new to me Intel iMac. On first bootup, I am trying to copy files from a Time Machine backup on a Time Capsule.

Things were going fine.

First it said it would take 7 hours. Then a while late it said 1 1/2 hours. Now it’s on to another user account and has been stuck at 41 minutes for 3 hours now. The display has gone to sleep several times. When I move the mouse or press a key it wakes up, but it is still saying it will take 41 minutes.

The only two obvious options are to 1) continue to wait or

2) click cancel.

Any ideas?

It is NOT wise to use Wi-Fi when migrating as it is extremely slow and frequently fails. Let MA run for 24 hours, then restart the computer and hopefully MA finished without any problems.

I have an ethernet cable I am using. It never finished. I clicked cancel and tried again, but it never started writing files. I had to cancel again. Now I can’t even get to the What Country are you in step.

i get the Happy Mac sound, the apple, and the progress bar, but it gets stuck at about 80% loading.

The fastest and most reliable method is to connect the old Macs Time Machine backup External Hard Disk to the new Mac and then launch MA! Works every single time!!!!
