MacBook Air 2023, suddenly screenshot shortcuts not working; settings appear in place. I've restarted; I've shut down and started. SHIFT+COMMAND + F3= screen disappears; SHIFT+COMMAND+ F4= tiny number code, no screenshot. HELP!

comamnd-shift-3 and command-shift-4 are the screen shot shortcuts. The F-keys are not used for the screen shot.
On various Mac OS, a Grab or Screen Capture utility is found in Applications or Applications -> Utilities that operates on the same principle as the keyboard shortcut.
The keyboard settings in Apple menu -> System Preferences/Settings (Ventura and Sonoma the App name has changed to Settings) has an option to use F1, F2 keys as standard function keys, which if toggled will force you to combine the F-key shortcuts with the FN key.
