Disable Internal Keyboard When Using External Keyboard

I cannot figure out a way to disable the built-in keyboard when using my external keyboard. I can disable the touchpad when connected to the wireless touchpad, so I figured they would also integrate a keyboard option. Any ideas?

"That's not how it works."

For keyboards, the Mac continues to use "all connected devices active". That means you can literally type every-other key from every-other connected keyboard.

if you need to keep the cat off it, cover with a lightweight but stiff card, such as a file folder or a piece of foam-core.

Not a cat person. Not that it matters, but I would like to set my keyboard on top of the laptop to use a good keyboard instead of the poorly design one that's built-in.

I have learned a lot of things on these forums from other users, and I have frequently come across you giving similar styles of advice. Is there any reason why you cannot educate others without acting the way you do? Having a little tact goes a lot further with people. You don't know me, and I don't know you, so there's no reason to answer a question with this much vitriol. If answering questions here makes you miserable, I would suggest getting off the computer for a bit.

I am really sorry I could not give you the answers you wanted to hear.

I do not understand how you are reading my posts, which are written with simple declarative sentences, as "this much vitriol."

I can not see any disparaging comments or character assassination against you or against Apple or against technology in general.

I WELCOME your suggestions about how modify my writing style to seem less vitriolic to you.
