Available disk space in Finder

In the Finder, Show Status Bar shows available disk space on one drive but not another when looking at the rood level of the drive. Once I go beyond the root level on the drive where the available space does not show, I do see the available disk space in the new window. Toggling View -> Show Status Bar does not cause the available disk space to show. Any ideas?

The issue about the information not showing on the Finder's status bar may be due to the file system, or the location being viewed. I think I noticed this once or twice before, but never really paid any attention to it. I currently have multiple Finder windows open on my internal boot drive and they are all showing the "Available" space except when I select the root of the drive "Macintosh HD" item (Big Sur and Ventura).

FYI, the "Available" storage designation is very misleading term and should not be used since it does not mean what you think it does. What you really need to view is the actual "Free" storage space. Unfortunately the Free space value is only shown in Disk Utility and the System Profiler. I have more details about the issues with Available versus Free space here:
