Hi, I am not an apple support representative, but I may be able to help. I will be putting the explanations (along with simplified explanations) to help
Tesla chargers use Qi Wireless Charging, which is a third-party service that almost all car companies use for wireless charging.
Wireless charging is inherently less efficient. (AKA: Wireless charging is not as good as charging your devices as WIRED charging.
Yet, the energy that is inputted through the charger is outputted somewhere. This energy leaves the charger and enters the device, but because of the efficiency limitations, about 20-30% of the energy is lost as HEAT.
Therefore, whenever you use a wireless charger, your phone becomes hot as the energy is lost.
This effect is exaggerated when you use a thick case, or have many apps open, as more energy is lost as HEAT and less is used by your device.
To reduce this effect, consider these steps:
Check to ensure that your phone is updated to the latest version, and update as necessary
Swipe out of all apps that you are not currently using
Remove the case of the iphone while charging
Hope this helps!
