It's not showing it..
This is what's happening:
The iPad is not showing the widget, it's not charging. But, when I turn down the Bluetooth and turn it on again, I see how is showing me that there is an Apple Pencil to connect, but iPad does not connect it.

I have the same problem, shows battery at 98% , it's an apple pencil 2nd generation. I have an Ipad Pro 12.9" third generation.
When I'm working with procreate, after 30 minutes the pencil doesn't work anymore, and continues to show 98% battery. And pencil doesn't work in any app.
The problems begins with ipadOS 17 and upgrades, the actual version is 17.5.1 (21F90)
Please help us. And correct the software issue.
I believe the issue with the Apple pencil (at least the 1st gen pencil) is definitely a software issue .. the software upgrade to IOS 17 is THE problem! Apple are still selling 10th gen iPad 2022 as compatible with 1st gen Apple Pencil but it does NOT work with IOS 17! Tried by replacing my 10th gen iPad also the pencil nothing works.. Apple are shooting them selves in the foot with this one, they’ve no sensible response other than the usual ‘pencil battery’ /wifi connection ..and always the users fault!! It’s likely they are UNABLE to rectify the incompatibility and hoping the ‘little people’ will forget in time! But maybe users have had enough! I’d think twice about buying any more of their expensive accessories. My only option now is to buy a generic stylus pencil so I can use pro-create on my iPad!
I also have this problem. My Apple Pencil 1 no longer work with my 9th gen iPad. I can connect it with Bluetooth, then draw half a letter, then it stops working. I've tried all the online advice, nothing helps. If I leave it alone for a while, then pick it up, same thing. It draws half a line and stops working.
I would like to know if this is a software issue and when we can expect it to be fixed. Currently I can no longer use the Apple Pen, and the main reason for having an iPad is to take notes with my Apple Pen....
Without knowing what “everything” is, I can make guesses, but don’t complain if you’ve already tried them! Start by following the guidance in this link and report where you run into problems→Pair Apple Pencil with your iPad - Apple Support
I’m also experiencing this issue. I’ve tried everything to reconnect that others have tried. It shows as connected but isn’t responsive. Can anyone please help? My pencil is fairly new and unused.
Thanks! Ended up having to visit the Genius Bar after Apple Support couldn’t solve it. Thankfully my pencil and iPad are still under warranty so I’m getting a new pencil.
I’m interested to know if your replacement pencil worked with IOS 17.4 on your iPad? Tks
If it’s that new it should be covered by warranty. Contact support: https://apple.com/support
Have you charged it?
It’s a 2nd generation pencil so, I charge it magnetically..
It has been attached for 2 days.
If you add a battery widget what does it show for the state of charge of the pencil?
It’s likely that the pencil is broken, then. You’re lucky you still have yours; I lost 2 of them. So I now by cheap knockoffs, so when I lose one it only costs me $40 instead of $140 😏
The pencil is ok, I don't see anything broken. But maybe is internally. I will check it out. I have less that 3 months with it.
