Lost Iphone - need to remote wipe

Scam.

The erase that you tried to implement is still pending because one or more of the following things are true:

• The battery has run down
• The phone has been powered off
• The phone does not have a connection to the Internet where it is currently located

There is a reasonably good chance that the phone really is in China though, since thousands of phones arrive each day at a huge remanufacturing plant there.

If you delete the Apple ID or delete the phone from Find my...the phone will unlock activation lock and you will not be able to remote wipe it.

It is most definitely a scam.

If the phone has a passcode on it, your data is encrypted. Without that passcode, no one is getting to the data on your phone.

Probably trying to scam you in order to release the phone. I really doubt that he managed to access your data. You did have a passcode lock on it?

Once the phone connects to the internet it will remote wipe.

Beware of scam/phishing emails pretending to be from Apple, where they inform you that your iPhone has been "found", prompting you to enter your Apple ID and password thus giving the thieves access to your Apple ID and thus take control of your account/phone.
