Help with Imac… Imac wireless keyboard & mouse not working

Hey everyone,

Could anyone please help…

I disconnected my Imac by accident and it restarted in Safe Mode and then went through to the log in screen. However, the wireless keyboard and mouse I have is not working so I cannot log in.

I spoke with Apple who advised I would need to buy a wired mouse and keyboard as the only way to log back in. Surely this can’t be the only way I can get back into my computer?

If anyone has experienced this and / or has any advice or suggestions, please help!

Thanks so much in advance! :)

The following will require any USB keyboard and mouse. If you don’t have them, borrow or buy them, they are inexpensive!

1.     Connect the USB keyboard and mouse to the computer.

2.     Open System Preferences – Bluetooth

3.     Un-pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.

4.     Turn off Bluetooth

5.     Restart the computer in Safe Mode per the directions in Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

6.     Restart the computer normally.

7.     Open System Preferences – Bluetooth

8.     Turn on Bluetooth

9.     Re-Pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.

10.  Unplug the USB keyboard and mouse and begin testing the wireless devices again.

Thank you very much for your help! As the new Imac no longer come with the USB port it makes a bit tricker to find a mouse / keyboard with these cables.

I can use my wireless mouse which does plug in a USB adapter I have, but the Apple advisor told me I would need to buy a wired mouse and keyboard with the USBc connection which makes it a bit more problematic / pricey.

thanks again!

Alright mate, you don’t need to be rude about it. Don’t hurt yourself! No one has asked you to reply…

I was referring to the older usb ports which the newer macs don’t have, meaning I need a convertor. What I was trying to explain, if you had read what I had actually said, is that the person from Apple told me NOT to use an adapter and just plug it in DIRECTLY into the computer.

Please don’t bother responding again with your rude responses.

cheers!
