have anyone had issues with thunderbolt external drives with Mac studio?

I've just discovered something..

I have 7 external ssd's connected to my mac studio.. most of them are throgh two OWC thunderbolt hubs.. once I disconnected all external drives.. all the issues stopped and the machine worked normally for the first time!..

any idea why is this happeneing?

if you have too many bus powered (or Dock Powered drives without enough power from the dock) then drives might start to act goofy.


Your whole Mac acting goofy for that reason would be a new diagnosis not seen in its Plain form here. But that situation is so convoluted it would be very hard to discover, but not far-fetched. Generally speaking systems respond to power over-draw with an uncontrolled power-down to avoid power supply damage.


There is a method for observing bus current required and available for each drive.

 menu >about this Mac > (system report) ... then look at each drive in turn, like this example:

Also, be sure you run the diagnostic with all the drives connected. Maybe it will measure the current draw.
