I clicked on apple System Preferences, Apple ID and that window insert is now frozen on screen. Cannot get past it.

I updated to Monterey most current, and now Mail will not trash messages to my gmail account. In pursuing the fix, I clicked on Apple ID in system preferences as suggested by a user online in the community. When I clicked on "verify" for the gmail account, It popped up a window insert with only the apple image showing at far left and froze right there. I cannot get past the frozen window insert.

Start with this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
