Credit and Debit cards not added to Apple Wallet on a single device - iPhone 15 Pro

I've seen this happen to a couple of people but so far no resolution.


The error I keep getting is "Card Not Added" which is not in this list of error messages. I've been trying to work with the banks and Apple on this issue with no resolution. None of my credit or debit cards will go on to my iPhone 15 Pro - every other device, even my backup 14 Pro works.


I've even sat with an Apple Genius trying to get this to work again but even they are stumped as to why a single device won't add my cards to Apple Pay.


The only thing I've noticed is that for one of my cards there is an extra number for verification that I do not recognise. It's not entered as part of my bank profile and the bank confirmed they do not have any other number on file.


I have my Apple Card and Apple Cash and all loyalty and transit cards but if it's a Debit Card or a Credit card is just gives me the "Card not Added" error.

Update in case anyone is searching in the future:


Apple came back and confirmed two things: 1) Not being able to add my Apple Account balance to my wallet is a bug they are aware of and will likely fix in a software update 2) Not being able to add credit cards is being caused by rejections from the Network (VISA/MASTERCARD/ etc).


In the meanwhile, last night I was able to randomly add all my credit cards and apple account balance to my Apple WATCH successfully without having to call anyone. I was happy with this because I could use Apple Pay like normal finally.


Trying to add credit cards to my iPhone wallet continued to return "cannot add card". I tried one of the tricks mentioned on this forum yet again - disable my passcode, then enable it again - and that allowed me to add some of my cards to my iPhone wallet via the "Previous Cards" section of the wallet. However, I was still required to call the bank to complete verification, something they were actually able to do!


So overall I am unable to identify a specific solution. It may be a combination of time, resetting things on your phone/watch, and calling your bank. I am now in an acceptable state of being able to use Apple Pay for the most part. If the issue ever completely resolves, I will update.

It sounds like all four of the banks are using Visa and MasterCard for the verification of your cards. Some banks do their own verifications, others use a third party, typically Visa and MasterCard. There is something happening on the verifiers end (probably Visa or MasterCard) that causes them to not add your card. All the iPhone does at that stage is transmit and receive data from the verifier at that stage. It can’t reject adding your card, the bank accepts or rejects the card after the code is entered, or the verifier just adds the card.


How often have you tried adding the card in the last 7 days?

I agree, someone is blocking this one phone and no one will own up to it. Like I said all my other devices are fine.


Since this is some third party blocking my device then the phone isn't viable to be replaced by Apple and I'll probably never find out why it's being blocked. The phone is basically a useless piece of tech right now.


My only option is to use my backup device for now until it's time to replace that with another device. This whole troubleshooting process has been a nightmare and I'm really annoyed that the iPhone 15 Pro I have is basically useless. To be honest I could probably trade in the 15 Pro come September for a 16 Pro and hope this isn't and issue with the next version.

Can confirm I have been having this same issue and gone through the same troubleshooting steps. I started encountering this after upgrading/restoring from an iphone 11 to iphone 13. Based on my research I suspect there is a device trust score that Apple algorithmically applies to devices, and I guess the upgrade and restore process triggered it to block our phones? Of course, no one knows anything about it and can't seem to help. Only solution I've seen on these forums is to just wait and hope it resolves itself after weeks/months. Very frustrating.

Ultimately that link is also saying that apple is sending information including "account activity", "account or device history" and "aggregated stats". So something is going wrong in the exchange of information between the two entities and we, the customers, are suffering as a result, while both entities are unable to offer a solution. Have you encountered this problem before and if yes, how did you solve it?

How the third party verifier uses that information is determined by them and the bank. Apple is just transmitting data. Not scoring the risk of fraud. That’s what the bank and verifier do, appraise risk.


What the second quote of yours actually says is >>Account or device history of adding payment cards<< Again, Apple just sends data, banks are using that as needed for appraising risk of fraud.


Your third attempt at placing blame is also misleading because again, you left out context.


One of the steps that Apple does is have the owner erase and reset the iPhone. This would erase any history that the iPhone would transmit about account activity on the phone, phone activity, number of calls and >>device history of adding payment cards.<<


The issue is with the bank and third party verifier. The very fact that a wrong phone is on one account, is enough of an issue to indicate fraud for most banks. In my experience answering hundreds in this community, posts similar to the original posters, the issue is the bank. When the number gets fixed, in 7 to 10 day (occasionally sooner) the card gets verified and is added to the Wallet.


So ultimately, the article outlines what provisioning steps and information are encrypted and sent to the bank and the verification service they use. Nothing more. Your leap to concluding Apple has some scoring system is false. If you’re looking to blame someone, talk to the bank and find out the company they use for verification.

So I think this is a bigger problem, not only can I not add Credit Cards to my iPhone 15 Pro but my Apple Watch Ultra (Gen 1) can't get the cellular plan restored.


I tried restoring my iPhone 15 Pro to just move on without Apple Pay and now my Apple Watch Ultra has lost its cellular plan and cannot restore the eSIM.


The Verizon support agent said the eSIM activation flow I'm seeing should not be happening.

None of this makes sense to me whatsoever. I tried setting up my iPhone 15 Pro again and facing further problems:

* cards can’t be added to wallet

* Apple Watch Ultra eSIM can’t be installed.


I’ve given up using Apple wallet and just wanted to get this $1200 device working but facing more and more problems. There also seems to be a time difference you can switch esims because can’t put the eSIM back on my iPhone 14 Pro.


ugh all I want is this **** phone to work!!!!! 😡😡😡

All I know right now is this iPhone IS NOT WORKING!


2 basic features it is supposed to support and ITS FAILING!


No one has a solution.


There is no way to diagnose the problem.


All there are, are repetitive lists of things to do that just seem to make it worse.


Whether the two are connected or not has reached a point where it doesn't matter. This iPhone 15 Pro is not working and no one seems to actually know what the issue is because there is no information to actually use to fix it. Not at the banks, not at the phone providers, not at Apple.


Seems like a very broken system if you ask me.

That was my post actually. If you research the historical posts on these forums, you'll see different methods of removing cards, resetting things, and trying to add them again to maybe fix this issue.


In order to use Apple Pay, you need to have a passcode/faceID on your iphone. If you disable the passcode, all the cards in your wallet will be removed. Sometimes, this may "reset" things such that you will have success adding some cards back. The risk here is that if you already have cards working in your wallet, and you remove them through this method, you may end up just getting "cannot add card" on those as well.


In summary: Remove passcode/faceID from phone, thus deleting all your cards. Then add your passcode/faceID back again. Then try adding the cards to your wallet.
