view only can't edit Word

my microsoft 365 account is through my university, my Word app says "can view 

documents, but it doesn't allow editing on a Mac. To edit, 

use another account to activate Microsoft 365. 

To learn more, contact your admin about your Microsoft 365 

plan."

what does that mean please help

It means you must contact the university's IT department for assistance.


Microsoft allows people to view documents without a license or valid account, but won't allow you to edit documents without a valid license or account for the software. All of that is managed & controlled by the university's IT department.
