How to get to top of long messages in MacBook Air without endless scrolling?

Hi,

How to get to top of long messages in MacBook Air without endless scrolling?  More maddeningly, during scrolling it often and randomly jumps back to the end and thus you are starting over!

Alas, just repeating the simple question below, from 6 yrs ago... and the answer that does not work….

Script to automatically scroll to the top of an iMessage history

So here is my question:

Basically I need some kind of Script or something that will indefinitely scroll up until I force it to stop. This way I can start the script and come back a day or 2 later and export the conversation history as a PDF. Is this possible, and if so does anyone know what this script would look like?

Thanks for your help!    -Nik

How about

  • fn+Left_Arrow - Start of page
  • fn+Right_Arrow - End of page
  • fn+Up_Arrow -> Page up
  • fn+Down_Arrow -> Page down

<Mac keyboard shortcuts - Apple Support>

 Unfortunately, the above solution does not work on a MacBook Air as it says.  I find this so often on these forums that the information is somehow incorrect, from people who often are considered, or consider themselves, experts.   Fn + Left Arrow and Fn + Left Arrow (is this correct way of translating fn + Left underline? Arrow?) can be used as home and end buttons, but this does not work in messages, maybe in other applications.  Perhaps the problem here is that experts just thinking they know without actually trying it? - Indicated in answer starting with “How about”…. I have found innumerable times that the model/year makes a difference in troubleshooting. I find statements like “go to the apple and click preferences” when there is no preferences choice there. But in this case my 2023 and 2020 MacBook Airs, both agree there is no preferences and Command + Left Arrow and Fn + Left Arrow buttons do not resolve the issue of text scrolling.

Thank you for any help here, - Neal

Would this help....

Go to your system settings under Appearance and change scroll bars to always show so that you can grab it with your mouse or trackpad and drag up to the top.

You can see my scroll bar always shows to the right where I can grab and drag to the top. Maybe you can set a script or automation to do that kind of scrolling. I noticed that you have to drag up in messages and as long as you hold it at the top, it will keep scrolling up.
