British and Portuguese I have tried setting it to just British only and just Portuguese only but makes no difference.

The printing on your keys has to be either British or Portuguese. Which one do you have? If there is a Ç you have a Portuguese keyboard, and on the list in system settings > keyboard > text input > edit > input sources you should have only one item, with the name Portuguese.

If there is no Ç on your keyboard, it is British, and your input sources list should have only British on it.

If still a problem, post a photo of your input sources list and your keyboard.

the keyboard that has British and Portuguese characters is referred to as Portuguese keyboard (PO).

using the Portuguese keyboard translation should make the key caps and the codes generated be the same.

How it works:

EVERY keyboard generates key codes that correspond with key POSITION on the keyboard, nothing more. Everything else is managed by InputSources translations.
