Unable to access Messenger on my iPad

After an overnight update I am unable to access messenger on my iPad. It keeps directing me to my phone to affect confirmation but there is nowhere on my phone to do this. I have tried deleting Facebook and messenger on both iPad and phone but all that has happened is that now I cannot access marketplace on my iPad either now.

has anyone got a solution?

What's the solution if you don't have a smartphone (like my parents)???

They can't open Messenger anymore on their Ipad....

I also have this problem and it is doing my head in! I do not have a smartphone so how do I go into the non existent messenger mobile app? Not good enough. I cannot read some important messages. Why has this suddenly started? Not the first problem I have had with my i pad, the worst purchase I have ever made.

What makes you think the app is "non-existent"? The Facebook Messenger app for iPad is available in the app store. How well it works is something you'll need to test out for yourself. I avoid Facebook. It is certainly not Apple's fault that Facebook/Meta releases poorly coded apps.

@Tim9036 : If you say you have “no access to your iPad Messenger”, I suppose you have Messenger installed on your iPad as well (not only on your phone) ?

If so : Are you sure you really “deleted” the Messenger and Facebook app from your (Android) phone ? Meaning, it is not still “in your cloud” ? If still in the cloud, it will show you the little “cloud sign/emoiji” when reinstalling it. Which means the app(s) have not been “really deleted” from your phone. You have to find a way to delete them from your cloud as well, before reinstalling it.

@ Tim9036 : That’s what I came to tell you : Apple will redirect you to the app’s developer, as they state the app (Messenger) has been developed by a 3rd party).

I know that trying to get an answer from a 3rd party developer (or Meta in this case) is impossible.

I spent 3 days trying to find the above solution 😅.

Good luck Tim, I hope you find a way to get this annoying thing solved !! (At least you can still access from your phone, right ?) 🍀

Hi Tim,

I know, it’s ridiculous - but I think it has to do with “new privacy laws” in the EU .. ?

It is for sure NOT because you have an Android phone, because I have an Android phone too, and that is exactly the one where I managed to fix everything from.

What you should also do is : check which phone number is registred in your Facebook acccount. THIS is the phone where you should be able to fix the problem from.

Have a nice weekend !

I have a single phone number, and of course the only sim card for it is inside my phone, but I could not get the popup to appear no matter What I did. I managed to fix it only by switching my SIM card to my old phone which I havent used in years, I opened Messenger on it and the popup came right away and ipad Messenger started working again

Hi guys, after a couple of reasonably stressful days. Contact with Apple and messages to Meta, plenty of searches and messing about and time wasting with both I pad and my phone.

This morning I open messenger on my Android phone, and bingo! The procedure opened up straight away? Now my I pad on messenger is back in the world of the living, thanks YellowLow for your support. And good luck to all the other poor souls who get stressed about this app. You guys have a great weekend too.

And how can Apple pass on the problem to a third party contributor .

Apple can "pass on" the problem because Apple doesn't control how FB/Meta writes their apps. And, for about the past year, FB/Meta has really been falling down on the job.

As always, the first step in troubleshooting a third-party app is to delete and re-install it.
