Downloads folder not showing items to attach to emails

I airdrop photos from my iPhone to my Mac, and they appear in the Downloads folder. I go to attach them to an email, but when I am writing the email (using Apple Mail) and select 'attach' and choose the Downloads folder, those photos are not there. I have chosen to sort the files by date added, so they should be there. But the Downloads folder which opens for the attachment only has stuff from yesterday. The photos are in the Downloads folder in Finder, but not in the folder which opens to select items for an attachment. Why is there a difference between the Downloads folder in Finder, and the Downloads folder that opens to select an attachment? Thanks. David

After you select "attach" and choose the Downloads folder:

• click the Downloads folder icon at the top of that window and the folder path will be displayed.

• type Shift-Command-H (⇧⌘H) and you now should be looking at the folders and files in the first level of your Home folder. The default Downloads folder - the one with the down-arrow icon - lives on that level.

Is that the same folder where your AirDropped files are?

Is that not the same Downloads folder that opens when you choose your folder?

Did you inadvertently create another downloads folder located somewhere else?

You can navigate to the correct folder within that attachments selection window or select from any of the folders you have included in the sidebar on the left.
